10 Uses For... Doilies

This isn't your grandmother's doily. Circular, sweet and shabby chic, these detailed designs are making a youthful comeback in today's home decor and fashion worlds. Originally used as ornamental mats to protect wood surfaces from scratches, today's craft enthusiasts are finding exciting and eye-catching ways to make use of these vintage fabrics. Whether they're colorful or classic white, crocheted or knitted from cotton, doilies are making their rounds.

I love doilies... I especially love them framed, or carefully tacked to a pillow form. Great idea's here. :) I'm so happy I kept all of the one's my grandma gave to me over the years.

I love these ideas!! I've a box of vintage doilies that have threads missing here and there - I now see how a strategically placed button could save the day!

As for the wedding dress - a labour of love and a work of art! Beautiful...

Such great ideas! I especially love that dress! My grandmothers had and have these all over their house, using them the traditional way, as runners and buffers between their frames and nick nacks and their glass and furniture. They should definitely be displayed more vertically!
